Goals
Create an application that creates a more convenient and user-friendly way to fill out course evaluations at the end of the quarter. The wording of the questions and amount of questions needs to stay the same.
An example of the current course evaluation forms
Problem
Course Evaluations at Eastern Washington University are currently filled out on paper and then handed off to an office aid who has to manually enter the information into the computer. The rating system is on a one to five scale which isn’t very descriptive and doesn’t give a reference point. The professor leaves the classroom when the evaluations are being filled out, often students just leave without filling out the form. This makes the data less accurate because the whole class isn’t being represented.
Solution
My goal was to create a more visual way to rate each class that would be quick and easy for the students filling out each evaluation. I choose to convert the 1 to 5 scale into angry to sad emojis so students filling out the evaluations would find the evaluation process more engaging. The emoji scale more accurately represents feelings about each aspect of the class that is being questioned during the course evaluation. Changing the medium from a piece of paper to a phone would make the experience more convenient for the students because they can fill it out in any location where there is internet access. Because the data is now digital the, an office aid doesn’t not have to spend countless hours entering data to a spreadsheet, which optimizes the experience.
Future Features
It is important that each student doesn’t fill out a course evaluation more than once, so an important feature to add would be a verification system. A way to do this would be to have this link from EWU or any future school’s student login system. Then each login could only access a course evaluation for each class once.
